Skyla S. Hearn: HB Week 12 at the Harsh/Woodson

To date, I have processed over 2,500 photographs. I wish I had have made a bet regarding the amount of photographs. Although its a stretch, I may have had a free lunch. There are three main categories: Family and Friends, Church Affiliations and Union Organization Affiliations. The most popular and heavily attended organizations include: the Southern Christian Leadership Council (SCLC), Operation Breadbasket/Operation P.U.S.H., Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), United Packing Workers of America (UPWA), and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers Administration of North America (AMCBW of NA). Mrs. Wyatt was at the helm of the bulk of these organizations. She served as the Vice President of the AMCBW of NA, Head of the Civil Rights and Women's Rights department in addition to lending support to certain politicians as Mayor Harold Washington, Mayor Eugene Sawyer, Congressman Danny Davis, Reverend Jesse Jackson, etc. In addition, Mrs. Wyatt was heavily involved in Vernon Park Church of God and other Church of God affairs, community events and with her family. She is said to have had a wonderful, generous and kind spirit. During our first and only meeting, she held my hand and thanked me for the work I was completing on her photograph collection. That brief encountered was enough to keep the torch lit to guide me through processing the remaining photographs in this collection.

I have began to identify images that will be selected for the exhibition targeted for Spring 2013. In addition, the vendor has been selected and we are working on text panels with a Ph.D. Wyatt scholar. My hope is that the Wyatt Photograph Collection Opening will be an all-day symposium to celebrate the life of this aMAHzing individual through her personal collection of images.

Surprise #1: Lens Cup
Surprise #2: Lego Watch
Little Things = Happiness Infinity: Did someone say cake? Its time to celebrate! Two members of the H.A.P.P. Team celebrated (b)earthdays this week by sharing cake and coffee with the Harsh/Woodson staff. One shall remain nameless as he doesn't see the point for making a "fuss" over such things. Clues 1-3: He's one of the most respected archivists in the profession, was a part of the civil rights movement and maintains great relationships with Creators and donors of various collections. The other was myself. I'm shameless and am always thankful to accept an ear full of (b)earthday wishes!

The goals for the upcoming week include positively identifying all remaining photographs, selecting photographs and other materials that will be included in the exhibit and creating container lists. Yay!
